Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Association of Engineers (BANAE) has completed 3 decades as national organization with a humble beginning around 50 years ago as students organization at VNIT Nagpur (erstwhile VRCE Nagpur).
Inspired by the Life and Mission of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the students of Engineering Colleges in and around the Nagpur founded Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Engineers Association in 1969 under the pioneership of Er. Devendra Walde (Electrical engineering student of VRCE, Nagpur) with the objective to help the poor and needy engineering students. A library opened by this group of students at Deeksha Bhoomi proved immensely beneficial to the students belonging to marginalized section of the society.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Engineers Association worked primally for welfare of Engineering Students and to guard the students from discrimination faced by them in the colleges. It also worked for welfare of working professionals. With the intention to spread the association Nationwide, the organization was rechristened as "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Association Engineers" registered under The Societies Registration Act 1860 and The Mumbai Public Trusts Act 1950.

WHY JOIN BANAE?
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had high hopes from educated intellectual class such as professors, doctors, engineers and lawyers etc. He once he said that any community with 5 doctors,10 engineers and 15 lawyers, that community cannot remain a slave of any other community. He called engineers, lawyers and doctors as intellectual class. In any society, the development and future of that society depends largely on the actions of the intellectual class. He hoped that this educated intellectual class, will look after and protect the interest of the poor, illiterate and exploited sections of the Society.
We Engineers/Technocrats, as a part of the largest educated and intellectual class, have a role to play in fulfilling dreams of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. This cannot be realized by an individual alone, but it couldcertainly pave a way by uniting all engineers as a professional body under the umbrella of BANAE. We can safeguard our rights, fight against discrimination to our members and at the same time steer ahead professional career by exchanging ideas, enhancing technical skills and professional knowledge by holding seminars, workshops and conferences.
In the current situation of corona virus pandemic, employment among the youths is a major issue. Many of the companies (even reputed companies) have differed the joining date or cancelled the offer later given to the students in campus placements. Each member of BANAE can be instrumental in finding job for at least one unemployed engineer.By this way, BANAE will collectively able to find more than 2500 jobs. In addition to this,BANAE units can organize entrepreneurship development programs for a large number of unemployed youths. BANAE units having infrastructure can start incubation centers for entrepreneurs and start-up.
